How Nickel Quilts Are Created! This trunk show is sure to get quilters fired up about using 5″ squares of fabric and many of the ideas can also be adapted for using other precuts; such as 2 1/2″ strips and layer cakes. Pat will show a great assortment of quilts from her collection. Focusing on the blocks in the quilts and the simple components they are made from.
Quilts for all skill levels will be shown. One of Pat’s favorite things to do is to design a quilt using simple piecing and have the result look like a much more intricate quilt!
Turn a nice quilt into a WOW quilt by adding easy-to-piece Nickel Borders. In this lecture Pat will focus on easy to piece borders that are made from 5″ squares. She will show many of her quilts that have pieced borders and she walk you through her method of “auditioning” borders for a quilt.
We have all been there; the inside of the quilt top is done and now what do I do for a border? This lecture will give you many ideas to choose from and allow you to awaken a whole new level of creativity. Pat has loved designing pieced borders over the years and adding them to her quilts. Pat’s book, Nickel Quilts & Borders contains 260 pieced border ideas and she looks forward to sharing many of them!
I love teaching people to sew and quilt. Inspiring creativity is my passion! I got my hands on a needle and thread at a very young age and I’ve always enjoyed making art. For the past several years I’ve been blessed to be a textile designer and quilt educator as the host of Man Sewing. Now I teach quilting all around the world.
Founded in 2013, Green Light Quilts came to Chris Schulte, well… at a green light. While brainstorming the name with her children at a stop light, Chris was lost in thought. But when the light changed, and when a voice from the back seat exclaimed “Just go!” – something clicked.
Chris wanted to help people “just go” on their quilting journey, to green light their next project or dream quilt. Through her patterns and classes, Green Light Quilts does just that – inspires others to learn, grow, and add a little scrappy happy to their lives!

Aunt Margaret’s Scrappy Baskets
This design came to light when I asked myself, “if I were stuck on a deserted island with only one kind of quilt block, what would it be?” The quarter square triangle was on the top of the list. And then my thoughts roamed to Aunt Margaret’s ability to weave a basket, which, consequentially, would be a handy item on a deserted island. The result of my musing is this versatile quilt. I made the sample out of my white and blue scraps, but the options are endless. And it wouldn’t be complete without some scrappy and happy blooms.
During this workshop you will create 1 block with 3 options for that block.
From that 1 block you will make, you can choose to make one of the following
1 block for wall art
4 blocks for a table topper
20 blocks for the entire quilt
All directions will be included in the pattern you will receive at the start of the class.
