Books, Quilty Things & Fabric Resale.

Thank you so much for all your contributions to these guild booths at the quilt show:

Fabric Resale:

The Quilt Show Committee asked for quite some time for someone to lead the scrap team and the biggest reason people gave for not accepting the position is that it’s just too much work. And, true, it is a lot of work but it’s a huge part of fundraising for the guild. These are the funds that are used to pay for all the guests we have month after month. At just about every meeting I hear variations of “I wish I could help more” and here is your chance. I have taken on the monumental project that was Scrap sales and with a slight name change it is now Fabric Resale. In order to break up the work I’ve created categories and each needs its own leader. If you don’t want to be “in charge” there are still opportunities for you to help, the most important of which is by prepping and sorting your donation.

If you have any questions, concerns, would like to donate fabric but can not prep it all on your own, if you would like to help another member organize their donation, if you have a time sensitive need to donate fabric prior to the March meeting please contact me.

Thank you for helping our Guild keep being incredible – Sue Ann R Fabric Resale Chair

Challenge Quilts

The “Whole Deck” quilts will be dropped off prior to the show. (More info to follow as the date approaches). They will have their own booth at the show, and be eligible for a viewer’s choice ribbon! Voting is anonymous and done on the day of the show. We have a page all about it.

Opportunity Quilt

It’s time to sell tickets for the opportunity to win this beautiful quilt!
The quilt’s name is “Flying to the Stars ” and we will choose the winner on the last day of the quilt show.
Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. You may purchase tickets at any our show, any PSQG Meeting, asking a PSQG Member to purchase for you or by sending a check to:
Prairie Star Quilt Guild P.O. Box 1460 St. Charles, IL 60174-1460. Be sure to include your phone number as that is how winners will be contacted.
The quilt is traveling to other guilds when they have in-person meetings. We will also sell tickets (cash only) when we have our own in-person events. Additionally, tickets will be available at the show.
Need not be present to win.

Quilt Photography

Entries for the show are not open yet, but you might like to take more pictures of other quilts. Here is a link to a helpful video about how to photograph your quilts.

Display Quilts

Make sure to label and sleeve your quilt. It will also need a pillowcase for transportation. You can use any spare pillowcase you have, or make a new one. There are great video tutorials on YouTube about making a burrito pillowcase or you can use the Community Projects tutorial.

We have some helpful definitions that cover the categories for the judged quilts as well, in case you want to read those again.

Judged Quilts

Put a sleeve and label on your judged quilt as well. Our judging is anonymous, so please cover your label with painter’s tape before you drop it off. Once judging is complete, we’ll remove the tape.

Our judge for the 2020 show shared some information about the criteria judges use. It’s an interesting read, even if you aren’t entering a judged quilt.

Additionally, have you ever though of having one of your quilts appraised? Suzanne S also provided information about appraisals and their value.

Hanging Sleeve

Every quilt we hang at the show must have a sleeve sewn on to the back. Read about it on the definitions page. I found a helpful video from AQS (American Quilter’s Society) about how to make and attach a sleeve. You may download written directions here.

How do I make and attach a hanging sleeve?

A 4” sleeve, or rod pocket, is required for every entry. Position the sleeve so your quilt does not touch the floor when hung. Our rods at the show allow you about 90” from the top of your quilt to the floor. Please sew the sleeve to the quilt back. Straight pins are never an option.

There is a link to written directions and another video, below under hanging sleeve. In the meantime, here are links to some great videos on YouTube:
