UGLY FABRIC CHALLENGE
Did you know that over 13 tons of fabric and textiles are discarded by Americans every year in the United States? That is equivalent to 126 million cubic yards every year, an average of 65 pounds per person, occupying nearly 5% of our local landfills! The Earth Care Team at Oswego Presbyterian Church has a challenge for you. We invite local quilters and fabric artists to enter our “Ugly Fabric Quilting Challenge”. What is an “Ugly Fabric Challenge”? Here’s how it works.
1. You must register and pay the fee ($5.00) to participate. 2. You must donate at least 1/2 yard of ugly fabric. “Ugly” is in the eye of the beholder. Donated fabric does not have to be brand new, but must be free of tears, holes, or stains and must be what would considered as quilting fabric. We will collect one four inch square from everyone’s piece to display with your finished quilt. Fabric should be dropped off at Oswego Presbyterian Church, 1976 Route 25, Oswego, Il, 60543. 3. You will choose an ugly fabric to take home with you. Fabrics will be wrapped so no one can see what they are choosing, and can be picked up at OPC starting March, 27th, 2017. 4. Have fun creating a quilt using your ugly fabric. 5. Your finished quilt should measure at least 36” x 36” but can be any larger size you wish. Ugly fabric must be used in the quilt top. Ugly fabric should not be used as backing fabric. 6. Quilt must be finished and returned to Oswego Presbyterian Church by June 14th, 2017. 7. Quilts will be displayed (numbered and anonymous) at OPC on June 16th and 17th during Prairiefest. We invite the public to come view the finished quilts and vote for “Best in Show”. One vote per person. 8. “Best in Show” vote winner will be awarded $50.00. 9. Additional money collected will go towards the purchase of materials for the Blackhawk Presbytery service kits challenge, which supplies school kits and clean up kits to those in need. 10. Quilts will be available for pickup starting June 18th. Oswego Presbyterian Church 1976 Route 25, Oswego, IL 1 (630) 554 – 8194 www.opchurch.org
